Christmas with HOPE began in 2007 and has grown into a special holiday tradition for families and donors throughout our community. Many of our wonderful “adopters” return year after year, choosing a HOPE family and making their Christmas a little brighter.
A Hand Up at Christmas
Our Christmas program is designed to give hardworking families a little breathing room during the holidays.
We know parents will do everything they can to provide Christmas for their children—even when it means putting off bills or starting the new year already behind.
We want families to enjoy Christmas with their children without worrying about how they will pay January’s bills.
Qualified and approved families are matched with community donors who receive the family’s story, photos and Christmas wish list. Adopted families receive gifts for their family as well as assistance with groceries for Christmas dinner.
Who Is Christmas with HOPE For?
HOPE of the Grand Valley works to fill the gap for hardworking, low-income families who may earn too much to qualify for many traditional assistance programs but still struggle to make ends meet.
To qualify, families must meet our program requirements, including:
• Have at least one child age 14 or younger living in the home.
• Have at least one adult working full-time. The two most recent pay stubs are required with the application.
• Not receive full SNAP benefits.
• Not receive TANF.
• Meet HOPE of the Grand Valley’s income and assistance guidelines.
• Complete our application and screening process.
Families receiving Medicaid, CHP+, or CCAP may still qualify if all other program requirements are met.
Returning HOPE Families
Families who have previously received Christmas assistance through HOPE of the Grand Valley are expected to remain actively involved with HOPE throughout the year. This includes participating in follow-up budget workshops, support groups, classes and volunteer opportunities when needed.
Christmas with HOPE is about more than presents.It is about giving hardworking families a hand up, helping parents stay financially stable, and allowing children and families to experience the joy of Christmas together.
